Research Interests

My research interests include:

  • Effectiveness and safety of cancer treatments
  • Development and evaluation of clinical decision support tools (e.g., clinical prediction models)
  • Health services use

Importance to Patient Care

Evidence generated from my research may be used by patients and providers to make informed decisions about care. Evidence generated from my research has been used to inform policies and clinical practice guidelines. In addition, health systems may use this evidence to focus on delivering clinical services with potential to improve outcomes.

HIV Program Lead

Research Interests

My research aims to improve patient care and systems outcomes in HIV prevention, treatment, and associated complications. I am particularly interested in testing and evaluating implementation strategies to integrate evidence-based practices for HIV prevention, treatment, and care into healthcare systems. My current research interests include:

  • HIV prevention and Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)
  • Determining and evaluating effective models of care engagement and retention in hard to reach populations
  • Understanding factors that affect healthcare delivery for people living with HIV or at risk of HIV infection

Importance to Patient Care

Evidence generated from my research may be used to inform clinical practice and improve healthcare delivery for people living with or at risk for HIV infection.

Cancer Program Lead

Research Interests

The aim of my research is to improve outcomes across the cancer continuum, particularly for socioeconomically marginalized populations. My research interests include implementing strategies that address social, psychosocial, and behavioral barriers to quality cancer care. I have special interest in optimizing patient navigation to improve cancer care delivery from screening to survivorship.

Importance to Patient Care

Evidence generated from my research can be used to directly impact healthcare services delivery through improving patient navigation processes, which directly address barriers to care.

Program Area

  • Substance Use Program Lead

Research Interests

The aim of my research is to improve outcomes and reduce health disparities related to substance use, particularly for high-risk populations such as people with hepatitis C virus or HIV infections. Given the relation between substance use and morbidity or mortality in these high-risk populations, I am interested in developing interventions for primary, secondary, or tertiary prevention of substance abuse. My current research interests include:

  • Injection drug use (IDU)
  • Alcohol use patterns and adverse outcomes
  • Patient-reported outcomes and health utilization among high-risk populations

Importance to Patient Care

Evidence generated from my research can be used to inform provider and patient decision-making about prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis to improve health outcomes.
